This is a UK based contract and as such, you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Evidence of your Right to Work will be checked prior to interview.
As a conservation expert with a record of successfully delivering conservation, environmental or development programmes in an international operation, you fully understand that human activity threatens the survival of all life on our planet.
You will be aware that to meet the needs of a growing human population, we must significantly scale up our actions today to create a world where nature and people can thrive. This role as Director of Conservation Strategy at WWF UK is a tremendous opportunity to use your knowledge to do just that.
As Director of Conservation Strategy, you will take responsibility for our Thriving Habitats and Species (THS) initiative, one of five strategic goals designed to save our planet. Working closely with senior level colleagues and others, you will provide the vision, leadership and inspiration to deliver the THS goal. We will look to you to develop, lead, and deliver a strong strategy and programme of conservation work internationally and in the UK.
You will collaborate with Network Partner Offices, local civil society and development sector organisations to drive a change from multiple small scale projects to fewer landscape level programmes. You will also ensure that the work within the THS goal has a clear methodological and values-based approach as well as liaise with our fundraising team to generate income to deliver the programme. You will use emerging evidence and develop practical solutions to ensure we are keeping ahead of, and influence, the conservation sector too. Important will be the ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders to co-create initiatives, develop areas of work and influence approaches and strategy.
For this high profile role, you must have a track record in an international organisation with clear evidence of delivering conservation, environmental or development programme successes. You will possess impressive leadership qualities and experience of managing and developing people. You will have a good understanding of the realities of delivering rights based conservation and social development programmes too. You will also be used to developing major fundraising proposals and managing budgets.
An excellent project manager, you will be good at building relationships and operating collaboratively within a matrix structure. A strategic thinker, you will possess excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills. Of course, you will have a passion for conservation and environmental issues too.
If you have the expertise to help bring our world back to life, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website via the link and submit a copy of your up to date CV and the Supporting Statement to highlight what makes you a good fit for us.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.
Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.
